2009 NBA All Star Dunk and 3 Point Contests Completely Lacked Skill…Right?

Not according to the Associated Press article on ESPN.com this morning. According to the AP, the 2009 slam dunk contest was electrifying. "Electrifying," are you serious? Was the writer of this article watching the same slam dunk contest I was? I’m calling this writer out, I’m calling ESPN out too for irresponsible reporting. How in any way, was any part of Saturday night’s festivities "Electrifying?"

Following the recent NBA trend of the past ten or so years, this entire event was sub-par. Sub-par in regards to the participants, the skill of these participants, and even the skill of the announcers. Seriously, if I had to listen to five more minutes of the bickering going on between Kenny Smith and Reggie Miller (and background voice Mike Fratello), my head was going to explode.

The three point competition was an utter disappointment. First off, does anyone recognize any of these players (I can hear Stuart Scott right now saying, "Why don’t you ask these players who they are…blah, blah, blah, hippity hoopla). Who are these guys? Exactly, another example of how far the NBA has spiraled down the tubes. What has happened to players like Craig Hodges or Larry Bird competing in competitions like this? All sub-par. How can an NBA All-Star miss 7-10 three point shots in a row?

Now before I get into the disappointment that was the 2009 dunk contest, let me make note of how they transitioned into the contest.
Now we all know David Stern has been attempting to "re-brand" the NBA to feel more like the beloved days of Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. It isn’t working and a perfect example was the opening musical circus they had on the court to open up the slam dunk competition. First off, who was the band playing on that stage? They were terrible. The lead singer looked like a wanna be Bon Scott back from the grave. He was complimented by a giant white ogre in a hooded sweat shirt who periodically spit out something that sounded human. Meanwhile you have all these Phoenix Suns cheerleaders attempting to look excited, but I was feeling their pain. How could anyone move to that music? In my opinion this was another David Stern style marketing attempt to change the image of the NBA. It didn’t work. Dwight Howard dancing to that band was one of the strangest things I have ever witnessed.

Finally we got to the dunk competition. I was debating whether or not staying up for this would be worth my time. It wasn’t. Again, who are these guys? What happened to the days of Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins? In those days, those guys came out and did their business. Last night I sat here and watched these guys try to do things on the fly. Watching Pau Gasol trying ten time to bounce a ball off the backboard to Fernandez was like watching paint dry. Dwight, last year was semi-interesting with the cape, "BUT YOU ALREADY DID THAT!" The 12 foot rim, wow, great, he jumped up really high. Who cares, it wasn’t entertaining. The jump from the foul line, "ITS BEEN DONE!" Now Robinson’s ability to jump is very impressive, but his dunks were all just "ok." After this competition was over, I was left with the same empty feeling I have come to expect when it comes to the NBA.

I think the NBA has a much bigger issue then just a lackluster All-Star weekend. I think you are looking at an organization that has lost relevancy with the public. It has changed dramatically. I hold David Stern and his cohorts 100% responsible. When David Stern set on a mission to bring classy back to the NBA, I think he had the right idea in regards to change, but he took steps backward. David Stern and his cohorts attempted to fix the image issues by looking to what worked in the past and trying to apply it to 2000 whatever and beyond. It isn’t working David. There is no relevancy here. You need to get someone from the WPP Group on the phone on Monday morning. Try Ogilvy & Mather, maybe they can help figure out a way to never again allow Dwight Howard and Nate Robinson to be dancing to the Bon Scott Reunion Band when in their heads they are thinking Crack A Bottle.

Stern, you just don’t get it, change has passed you by my friend, it is time to retire.

PS. – ESPN, this is your job, not mine, stop catering to special interests in sports.

my answer is try to check on this site http://www.youtube.com/ there you find it.

Cell Phone.. Pixels?.. How long and much to repair?? AT&T brand?

okay, so i have a cell phone
its a Pantech Duo from AT&T: http://static.zooomr.com/images/3189975_5bc6379cd5.jpg (thats a picture of it.. no im not spoiled, that was for wonderful grades all through middle school and some high school)
and the pixels on the screen are all screwed up
at least im sure its the pixels… (99.9999999999999% sure!!!)
so they’re gonna send out a loner, and im gonna send in my awful phone… will they fix it?
its not totally messed up… but theres like big lines and blobs on the screen and i think its the pixles
im sure its under warrenty, but will u tell me if it its? its a basic warrenty and its for 2 years, so im covered w/ that
but how much will it cost? cause if its not covered by the warrenty or something like that i’ll probably get a different phone..
but how long will it take? (yes we’re doing it by mail), and will they be able to fix it? or just give me a new phone?
i know i should be patient, and i already have a good phone… but im a teenage girl, and i seriously need my cell phone! (lol i know im not w/ out a phone.. but yeah…)
thanks in advance and all answers are appricated!… i will give 10pts for best answer!!

Whether or not your covered depends on what the damage was from. If it was from water damage I don’t think you’re covered, but if it was another cause then you should be. My brother sent in his phone, a Samsung (not a duo), and was sent back a completely different phone model within two weeks. There is the possibility that they could send you a new pantech duo.

How can I send more than 1 images from my phone?

My mother-in-law has some pictures on her phone and she would like to send them to me at one time. She has a camera phone from (AT&T) and I am not sure of the make and model of the phone. Do you have to put them in a folder and then send or what? Help?
I think it’s a newer model, but it’s from phone to e-mail, not phone to phone. sorry :)

Do you mean send from her phone to yours? If so in most phones you can select multiple files and send them via bluetooth/infra red. If you mean from her phone to your computer then again bluetooth/infra red/data cable will allow the pictures to be transfered. Depending on the age of the phone, it should have bluetooth or at least an IR port. If not, and you have no data cable, then the only other thing would be a MMS. For multiple pictures however that would be expensive. The make/model of both phones would be useful because they may take pictures at different resolutions which may be higher than ones your screen can display. I hope this helps

CellScope: Mobile Imaging for Disease Diagnosis

Dr. Erik Douglas, leader of the CellScope project at UC Berkeley
Abstract:

Microscopy is the gold standard for medical diagnosis, but the necessary technology and personnel demands are often too high for use in the developing world. We are developing a platform for cell phone-based telemicroscopy, called the CellScope, which will enable remote image analysis for diagnosis and monitoring of diseases like malaria and tuberculosis. I will discuss the landscape of alternative diagnostics, our prototype system, and promising results we have achieved both in the lab and in field work.

Dr. Douglass research focuses on microdevices for cellular analysis, and point of care diagnostics for use in the developing world. He joined the CellScope project in Summer 2008, and is directing the development and implementation of the technology for mobile microscopy in the developing world.

Samsung i8910 Omnia HD first look

Features
The Samsung i890 Omnia HD’s headliner is its multimedia capabilities, so we only feel it proper to start with those first. Imaging is a strong point as the smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera that can record HD video. The camera offers a plethora of options, including six shooting modes, 14 scene settings, and eight resolutions as well as more advanced settings, such as ISO and blink detection. Meanwhile, you can record video in one of four modes and four resolutions. There are also some shared settings between the camera and camcorder, including white balance, anti-shake, and Wide Dynamic Range.

Picture quality was indeed impressive. Most camera phones have had problems with our standard indoor shot (below), but the Omnia HD produced a very clear image with rich colors without any weird bluish or amber overtones. We also shot several videos at 1,280×720-pixel resolution and for a camera phone, the video quality was definitely good. The picture was sharp and action scenes weren’t blurry or pixelated. However, we did notice that the camcorder had some trouble in bright sunlight as the picture was blown out.

Once you’re done shooting, the Omnia HD offers various ways to review and share your images with family and friends. The MediaBrowser is pretty cool in that it provides new ways to search and browse through your images. For example, you can flip through your images by tilting the phone left or right, though you can certainly use the onscreen arrows or finger swipes. There are also options to upload files to the Web or post them to various social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace. If you’re up for a public screening, you can do so via the included video-out cables or through a DLNA-compliant TV since the i890 Omnia HD supports this standard.

However, you can enjoy videos as well as music right from your device, thanks to the robust multimedia players. Supported video files include MPEG-4, WMV, H.263, H.264, DviX, and Xvid, and of course, you can watch content in HD resolution. The music player supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, Enhanced AAC+, MIDI, XMF, among other formats, and it includes advanced functions, such as 5.1 channel sound, an equalizer, sound effects, and visualization. The player’s interface is quite nice with album art support and in landscape mode, you can scroll through with a feature similar to iTunes’ Cover Flow. Other goodies include podcast support, a streaming media player, and an FM radio, though you have to use the included headset for the latter. With all these multimedia capabilities, one has to wonder about memory and we think you’ll be pretty relieved as the i890 Omnia HD comes in 16GB or 8GB model and both offer microSD expansion slots that can accept up to 32GB cards.
