AP: Muslim countries seek blasphemy ban
GENEVA (AP) — Islamic nations are mounting a campaign for an international treaty to protect religious symbols and beliefs from mockery — essentially, a ban on blasphemy.
Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Algeria and Pakistan have taken the lead in lobbying to bring the matter to a vote in the U.N. General Assembly.
Such a ban would face great resistance in Western nations that enshrine freedom of expression as a fundamental right.
The countries that form the 56-member Organization of the Islamic Conference are currently lobbying a Geneva-based U.N. committee to accept its plan, a first step for it to eventually be put before the General Assembly.
If that occurs, Muslim countries and their allies in the developing world would stand a decent chance of mustering the simple majority needed in the General Assembly to adopt such a treaty.

Sure. It’s OK for huge numbers of their populations to use their twisted religious teachings to chop off heads and blow babies up, but not OK for anyone to complain about it.
It makes sense to me. How about you? Geez…
These nations are a plaque upon the world.

There aren’t very many Muslims in Europe. This tiny minority has already caused the rise of right-wing parties in Europe. Already, many European countries, such as Ireland, are paying foreigners, in particular Muslims, to repatriate back to their original countries.
You overestimate the extent of Islamic influence in the West. Even if Muslims had a considerable amount of influence in the West, it would inevitably collapse, because loads of fed up people would vote anti-Islamic, right-wing parties into office.

Is a touch phone any good to text on?
I’m debating whether to get the LG Cookie or the LG KS360 (see links below). I prefer the Cookie but I don’t want to end up buying the wrong phone.
I mostly use my phone to text on but is a touch screen any good to text on? or does it take a little time to get use to it?
Thanks in advance
http://direct.tesco.com/product/images/?R=205-2880 (LG Cookie)
http://direct.tesco.com/product/images/?R=206-5138 (LG KS360)
hi there,
There are two types of touch screen. And i’m certain the Cookie has a ‘resistive’ touch screen. This means that you’ll have to give a tiny bit more force that you would a ‘capacitive’ touch screen, (iphone sort of screen)
You can eventually get used to this, i got used to texting in my satio fairly quickly.
My friend has the ks360, and it’s in awful condition now, i wouldn’t recommend this phone. Touch screens are ’scratch resistant’ whereas the ks360 is not.
I hope i helped, and guides you towards the right choice

Ok, I purchased the domain name yesterday and the site said thank you for your order. This morning, they called me telling me that the domain name was cancelled, I asked why? They said, yes the charge did go through on your mastercard but we have refunded you the full money. Now, they told me to wait 6 hours for the domain name to perge out of the system so I can re order it.
I dont want to order of these people because they were rude and not willing to assist me. Surprisingly, it takes 48 hours for the domain name to get registered and be ready for use after the purchase and another 24 hours if you order on the weekend.
Can someone please recommend a nice domain name registration company fo me. Price doesnt matter, I am looking for quality support, and everything.A company that can offer me the domain name for use right away.
The request from 1and1 to receive proof of your identity is highly unusual and is something I have only ever experienced with registering Canadian domain names (.ca).
Also, most registrars will make your newly purchased domain name available to you to begin using within a few minutes, if not instantly. Someone answered above that you can’t use a domain until 24 to 48 hours after the domain is registered. This is not true.
The 24 to 48 hours wait time applies only to the time it takes for all of the Whois servers around the world to get updated with the new domain name information, including owner information and DNS servers. What this means to you is that your domain name will not resolve 100% of the time to your website (or parked page) until all Whois servers are updated with your domain’s DNS servers. This is what takes 24 to 48 hours. Some registrars (like 1and1) will make you wait before you can use your new domain, but GoDaddy and Moniker (and most others) do not make you wait.
You would do well to go with GoDaddy.com. I have been using them for years and their customer service is very good. Their prices are also some of the lowest in the industry. The user interface can be a bit aggravating, but if you only have a few domain names, it won’t be a big deal.
My registrar of choice is Moniker.com because their prices are also very low and their user interface is far superior to that of GoDaddy (very important when you manage hundreds of domain names, as I do), but their customer service is not great. Moniker also claims to have never lost a domain name (through fraud, theft, etc.).
If you only have a few domain names and you want excellent customer service, go with GoDaddy. If you own 50+ domains and don’t care about great customer service, but ease of portfolio management is a major factor, then go with Moniker.

Computer glitch hits US flights
File image of planes at Atlanta International Airport
The delays affected Atlanta airport, one of the world’s busiest
A computer glitch affecting aircraft flight plans has caused cancellations and delays along the US east coast.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a computer system in Atlanta, Georgia, which processes flight plans stopped working properly.
As a result, controllers were forced to enter flight plans manually.
The FAA said the safety of planes in the air was not affected and, according to US media reports, the computer system is now working again.
The problems began at about 0515 local time (1015 GMT) on Thursday and, according to the Associated Press news agency, were resolved around 1000.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was worst affected, with dozens of flights cancelled or delayed.
Airports in New York, Boston and Florida also reported delays.
Airline officials said they expected the delays to continue through the day.
Last August a similar computer failure affected hundreds of flights across the US.
if we geta solar flair in 2012 predicted by NASA we lose all technology. just look at what happen with the planes imagine the world!

Solar Storm Warning
03.10.2006
+ Play Audio | + Download Audio | + Historia en Español | + Email to a friend | + Join mailing list
March 10, 2006: It’s official: Solar minimum has arrived. Sunspots have all but vanished. Solar flares are nonexistent. The sun is utterly quiet.
Like the quiet before a storm.
This week researchers announced that a storm is coming–the most intense solar maximum in fifty years. The prediction comes from a team led by Mausumi Dikpati of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). "The next sunspot cycle will be 30% to 50% stronger than the previous one," she says. If correct, the years ahead could produce a burst of solar activity second only to the historic Solar Max of 1958.
see captionThat was a solar maximum. The Space Age was just beginning: Sputnik was launched in Oct. 1957 and Explorer 1 (the first US satellite) in Jan. 1958. In 1958 you couldn’t tell that a solar storm was underway by looking at the bars on your cell phone; cell phones didn’t exist. Even so, people knew something big was happening when Northern Lights were sighted three times in Mexico. A similar maximum now would be noticed by its effect on cell phones, GPS, weather satellites and many other modern technologies.
Right: Intense auroras over Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1958. [More]
Dikpati’s prediction is unprecedented. In nearly-two centuries since the 11-year sunspot cycle was discovered, scientists have struggled to predict the size of future maxima—and failed. Solar maxima can be intense, as in 1958, or barely detectable, as in 1805, obeying no obvious pattern.
The key to the mystery, Dikpati realized years ago, is a conveyor belt on the sun.
We have something similar here on Earth—the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt, popularized in the sci-fi movie The Day After Tomorrow. It is a network of currents that carry water and heat from ocean to ocean–see the diagram below. In the movie, the Conveyor Belt stopped and threw the world’s weather into chaos.
see caption
Above: Earth’s "Great Ocean Conveyor Belt." [More]
The sun’s conveyor belt is a current, not of water, but of electrically-conducting gas. It flows in a loop from the sun’s equator to the poles and back again. Just as the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt controls weather on Earth, this solar conveyor belt controls weather on the sun. Specifically, it controls the sunspot cycle.
Solar physicist David Hathaway of the National Space Science & Technology Center (NSSTC) explains: "First, remember what sunspots are–tangled knots of magnetism generated by the sun’s inner dynamo. A typical sunspot exists for just a few weeks. Then it decays, leaving behind a ‘corpse’ of weak magnetic fields."
Enter the conveyor belt.
see caption"The top of the conveyor belt skims the surface of the sun, sweeping up the magnetic fields of old, dead sunspots. The ‘corpses’ are dragged down at the poles to a depth of 200,000 km where the sun’s magnetic dynamo can amplify them. Once the corpses (magnetic knots) are reincarnated (amplified), they become buoyant and float back to the surface." Presto—new sunspots!
Right: The sun’s "great conveyor belt." [Larger image]
All this happens with massive slowness. "It takes about 40 years for the belt to complete one loop," says Hathaway. The speed varies "anywhere from a 50-year pace (slow) to a 30-year pace (fast)."
When the belt is turning "fast," it means that lots of magnetic fields are being swept up, and that a future sunspot cycle is going to be intense. This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway. "Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big suns
the world would die without technology we have no way of communication. we rely on trade to get food here in America, if we cant talk it over we cant trade! they say a solar flair well do worse than lose technology it make it to where we have no electricity! so even the most basic things well, malfunction.
yeah no doubt i mean everything is done on computers thesedays, i think its something like 96% of all financial transactions are done electronically. if something ever happened to the sharemarket systems or whatever there would be chaos and if an event like in the movies where all electronic stopped working i think most people would lose their mind lol

How can I get this .gif image onto my phone?
http://www.gifbin.com/982755
Anyone know how I can get this .gif picture onto my phone without it being so small, or it being regular size but moving really slow. All I want is to have the picture on my phone and to see it just as it is on the website. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.
The girl in the pic is Gina Carano by the way
That gif consist of 82 frames. To get the smoothness you describe, you will have to remove (in the least) 80-85% of the frames. To do so, you will end up with a very short gif. You could easily select the frames you want in progression and then regression. Ultimately you will have a loop that could encompass movement with a ’slight’ return to its original position.
The more frames the gif image has, the more ‘ram’ it uses. That’s what is making its movement on your phone slow & sluggish; too many frames and its taxing your phones ‘ram’. Limit frame count to 8-10. The image size doesn’t seem that it will be a problem. Frame count is the villain here.

How should I resize this image to put on my cell phone?
I have a Motorola Krzr K1m cell phone, it has a display resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.
I want to resize the image found here: http://www.drumcafecalifornia.com/images/DrumMagazineLogo.gif
to fit as my wallpaper on my cell phone.
I have Photoshop but how do I resize it to make it fit perfectly?
I know how to send it to my phone already. thanks.
You won’t be able to properly resize the image unless you want to expand it by adding more background to it. The reason is you will end up changing the aspect ratio (width x height). The logo is very rectangular, it is much wider than it is high, and your phone’s aspect ration is only slightly rectangular by comparison, and appears to be higher than it is wide.
So I would first take the logo and put in onto a document maybe with a black background that was similar to the aspect ratio of the phone display.
Then I would use Image>size to change the size to match the phone display, and then from there, do a File>Save for Web and Devices which will let you choose the image type and the display quality.
Hope that helps.
