What is up with modern science today….?

before work today I caught a show on the science channel, where a guy looking at a blurred image from the Hubble constructed the existence of a black hole in the center of the galaxy from a smudged blur of bright light.

He didn’t say it COULD be a black hole…

he said it WAS a black hole,

basing this on no more than a smudge of light. and then applying vague mathematical equations which there is absolutely no authority to apply to this situation……except he claimed it was a black hole. He then went on and constructed this huge scenario of the light being emitted by the stars that were being sucked into the the black hole and on and on and on and I couldn’t get over the fact that there was not one piece of scientific data to support any of this except a smudge on a picture, that had been blown up three times and the chromatic scale had been changed.

And he was stating all of this grand supposition as FACT

And I was thinking hold the phone, where are the truth police????? Where are the Fact Feds???? Can these guys really go around espousing these suppositions as facts, get on national TV and no one calls them on it.

This had as much credibility as the "badge man" in the Mary Moorman photos at the Kennedy assassination.

Is this what modern science has become…..suppositions accepted as fact with little or no supporting data????

Since when did science become a "faith based" operation? Religion by it’s nature is supposed to be subjective and on the will of the believer……but when did science become a religion?

If science has become a religion and scientists have become the new televangelists, then it has it not lost all of it’s authority and we who espouse Creation are on the same level as those who espouse Evolution…..merely someone expressing a belief?

Evolution is a religion which I don’t have enough faith to believe in.

A 14 year old Girl posting nude photos on Myspace, Does punishment fit the Crime?

A 14-year-old New Jersey girl has been accused of child pornography after posting nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself on MySpace.com – charges that could force her to register as a sex offender if convicted.

The case comes as prosecutors nationwide pursue child pornography cases resulting from kids sending nude photos to one another over cell phones and e-mail. Legal experts, though, could not recall another case of a child porn charge resulting from a teen’s posting to a social networking site.

MySpace would not comment on the New Jersey investigation, but the company has a team that reviews its network for inappropriate images. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off a state task force, which alerted the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

The office investigated and discovered the Clifton resident had posted the “very explicit” photos of herself, sheriff’s spokesman Bill Maer said Thursday.

“We consider this case a wake-up call to parents,” Maer said. The girl posted the photos because “she wanted her boyfriend to see them,” he said.

Investigators are looking at individuals who “knowingly” committed a crime, he said, declining to comment further because the case is still being investigated.

The teen, whose name has not been released because of her age, was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. She was released to her mother’s custody.

If convicted of the distribution charge, she would be forced to register with the state as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, said state Attorney General Anne Milgram. She also could face up to 17 years in jail, though such a stiff sentence is unlikely.

The sex offender registry was a great idea in it’s conception but is quickly being diluted with people who don’t belong on it. The girl is stupid, that’s for sure. Her behavior certainly should be punished to get the point across to her and act as an example to others. Enabling those who enjoy child porn is deserving of the distribution charge.

Is she a dangerous sex criminal posing a threat to those around her? No, and concerned citizens shouldn’t have to sift around her when seeking out if there are true threats living their community. Is the stigma of the sex offender status deserving to her, I don’t think so.

Is this a good book outline?

Before I asked a question about my idea for a book: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;… and now I’ve written an outline with more details and action, based on the answers I got the first time.

Introduction: An insecure teenager befriends a group of young thugs and becomes one. Will he have to courage to turn his life around once he is confronted with similar problems as them?

Purpose: To explore the differences between middle class and poverty-stricken Black America.

I. Playin’ Around: The protagonist, Quay is introduced. He is a nerdy highschooler who enjoys gangsta rap and has always wanted to live the lifestyle portrayed in the songs.

II. Hooky: Quay and his brother skip school to go to where their father always warned them never to step foot. While Quay’s brother is not impressed, Quay sees this area as an opportunity to live the lifestyle he has always dreamed about.

III. The Trap: Quay and his brother meet Roc, Limpleg, and Carlos. Quay is able to fool them into thinking he is one of them by speaking with ebonics, smoking cigarettes and sagging his pants.

IV. No Way Out: The antagonists, Phil and Jason are introduced. The first time Phil meets Quay he recognises him as an outsider and tests him to see if he will fight. Quay is intimidated and backs down.

V. Hustlin’: Angel is introduced. Angel is an insecure, dimwitted young lesbian with an extreme psychological addiction to marijuana.

VI. Phatty Back: Quay loses his virginity to Angel’s promiscuous girlfriend, Kiara. She warns him not to tell Angel but Quay cannot help but brag to Roc, Limpleg, and Carlos about his affair.

VII. No Pretzels 4U: Quay first shoplifts and shares his spoils with the rest of the crew by having a cookout.

VIII. Rockin’ Like Nuthin’: Angel’s brother, Kwan is introduced. Kwan is an ingenious, psychopathic older youth with a love for the rapper Scarface. The first time he meets Quay he thinks his is an undercover police.

IX. Smokes: Quay has his first taste of marijuana. He enjoys his first experience of getting high with his first true friends.

X. Sunoco: Quay learns how to panhandle at the gas station.

XI. Finger Food: Quay is caught shoplifting and is banned from the grocery store.

XII. Feds: Angel finds out that Quay had sex with her girlfriend and instigates a fight between him and Phil. Phil demolishes him.

XIII. Caught: Quay is finally kicked out of his house and is forced to beg and steal to live. He starts to live in a house with Angel.

XIV. Upper Marlboro: Angel is arrested for shoplifting and taken to Prince George’s country Correctional Center. Kwan leaves her to fend for herself in the jail.

XV. The White Girl: Angel meets her new girlfriend from the phone chatline. Angel had been telling the girl, Hannah, that she was a male while Hannah kept from her the fact that she is White.

XVI. Miss Goldie Gets in Her Feelings: Angel’s mentor, Miss Goldie is angered by Kwan’s neglect of Angel and harsh words and spreads the word around that he is homosexual.

XVII. Positive *** *****: Quay insults Angel and again is confronted by Phil and Jason. This time Quay somehow manages to best the two with the help of Kwan.

XVIII. Goin’ Through the Motions: Quay works in another county and distances himself from the crew. He still goes to see them on weekends as he has no one else to hang out with.

XIX. The Birthday: Quay has a disassociative episode after smoking marijuana and attempts to rape a young woman who happens to be Jason’s cousin. Jason’s father presses charges against Quay.

XX. Left ****** Slumped and Mommas Down in the Dumps: Quay is committed to a hospital mental health ward for after attempting to rape a young woman. There he meets another young man with a similar background who got in too deep in a criminal lifestyle and sees him as if a mirror image of himself.

XXI. Razor Sharp: Quay attempts suicide to deal with the reality of his new life. He is again brought back to the same mental health ward and stays even longer.

XXII. Get a Tampon: Quay’s family stick by his side and help him through his legal trouble.

XXIII. Movin’ On: Quay, sentenced to probation looks forward to attending college and searches for a new job.

As an author myself, I’ve learned not to rely so much on an outline. Just let your ideas flow and make some parts up as you go along. But a rough idea of what will happen is good…

A computer glitch affecting aircraft flight plans has caused cancellations and delays along the US east coast.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a computer system in Atlanta, Georgia, which processes flight plans stopped working properly.

As a result, controllers were forced to enter flight plans manually.

The FAA said the safety of planes in the air was not affected and, according to US media reports, the computer system is now working again.

The problems began at about 0515 local time (1015 GMT) on Thursday and, according to the Associated Press news agency, were resolved around 1000.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was worst affected, with dozens of flights cancelled or delayed.

Airports in New York, Boston and Florida also reported delays.

Airline officials said they expected the delays to continue through the day.

Last August a similar computer failure affected hundreds of flights across the US.

March 10, 2006: It’s official: Solar minimum has arrived. Sunspots have all but vanished. Solar flares are nonexistent. The sun is utterly quiet.

Like the quiet before a storm.

This week researchers announced that a storm is coming–the most intense solar maximum in fifty years. The prediction comes from a team led by Mausumi Dikpati of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). "The next sunspot cycle will be 30% to 50% stronger than the previous one," she says. If correct, the years ahead could produce a burst of solar activity second only to the historic Solar Max of 1958.

see captionThat was a solar maximum. The Space Age was just beginning: Sputnik was launched in Oct. 1957 and Explorer 1 (the first US satellite) in Jan. 1958. In 1958 you couldn’t tell that a solar storm was underway by looking at the bars on your cell phone; cell phones didn’t exist. Even so, people knew something big was happening when Northern Lights were sighted three times in Mexico. A similar maximum now would be noticed by its effect on cell phones, GPS, weather satellites and many other modern technologies.

Dikpati’s prediction is unprecedented. In nearly-two centuries since the 11-year sunspot cycle was discovered, scientists have struggled to predict the size of future maxima—and failed. Solar maxima can be intense, as in 1958, or barely detectable, as in 1805, obeying no obvious pattern.

The key to the mystery, Dikpati realized years ago, is a conveyor belt on the sun.

We have something similar here on Earth—the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt, popularized in the sci-fi movie The Day After Tomorrow. It is a network of currents that carry water and heat from ocean to ocean–see the diagram below. In the movie, the Conveyor Belt stopped and threw the world’s weather into chaos.

The sun’s conveyor belt is a current, not of water, but of electrically-conducting gas. It flows in a loop from the sun’s equator to the poles and back again. Just as the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt controls weather on Earth, this solar conveyor belt controls weather on the sun. Specifically, it controls the sunspot cycle.

Solar physicist David Hathaway of the National Space Science & Technology Center (NSSTC) explains: "First, remember what sunspots are–tangled knots of magnetism generated by the sun’s inner dynamo. A typical sunspot exists for just a few weeks. Then it decays, leaving behind a ‘corpse’ of weak magnetic fields."

Enter the conveyor belt.

All this happens with massive slowness. "It takes about 40 years for the belt to complete one loop," says Hathaway. The speed varies "anywhere from a 50-year pace (slow) to a 30-year pace (fast)."

When the belt is turning "fast," it means that lots of magnetic fields are being swept up, and that a future sunspot cycle is going to be intense. This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway. "Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big suns
the world would die without technology we have no way of communication. we rely on trade to get food here in America, if we cant talk it over we cant trade! they say a solar flair well do worse than lose technology it make it to where we have no electricity! so even the most basic things well, malfunction.

yeah no doubt i mean everything is done on computers thesedays, i think its something like 96% of all financial transactions are done electronically. if something ever happened to the sharemarket systems or whatever there would be chaos and if an event like in the movies where all electronic stopped working i think most people would lose their mind lol

what kind of usb is this?

hi. can someone help me. i bought a phone from china but the usb cable broke. can you tell me if the usb of another phone can be used. the mobile is a ZTC. the charger bit on the phone is abot 8mm across then each end goes upwards for about 3mm , then it goes diagonal (towards the centre) for about 1m and then it goes straight across and joins . this is about 6mm.
plz plz help me. i really need to find this usb cable. if you want tell me your email adress and ill send an image of what the usb and the plug at the end of it should look like.

wwaht i desribed is the hole for the usb. the actual usb cable is more of a rectangle with rounded edges. it is about 7mm across and 2mm high

youth Football Coach Faces Bestiality Charge?

McEWEN, Tenn. — A McEwen youth football coach faces a charge of bestiality and is also at the center of a child rape investigation.

According to a warrant, during a police interview on a child rape allegation, Raymond Travis volunteered to show investigators his cell phone, which featured images of bestiality.

Travis faces a single count of bestiality. Investigators have not yet commented on the specific nature of the images, nor the child rape allegation.

Police said Travis wasn’t the person in the bestiality photos on his cell phone, but police won’t elaborate what was in the pictures.

Police said they aren’t ruling out other victims from other families. Travis has been a coach for the McEwen Warriors Junior Pro team for a few years.

McEwen police are working with a Humphreys County detective on the case. The Department of Children’s Services is also involved in the investigation.

Travis is divorced and shares custody of his son with his ex-wife.

Police expect to release more information and possibly announce additional charges within the next week. He is not a registered sex offender, and police said there’s no indication he’s been in trouble with the law before.

He is out of jail and will be in court at the end of the month.

I think before we rush to judgment, we should give the legal system time to sort the facts, and bring him to trial before a jury of his peers.

Hey this is a scam. I am in an Asian country and it happens here too. In fact it has been featured on a documentary how people are lured to answer such request and ended up losing various amount of tranfee adminstration to the con man. There is no way the bank or the government will act that or need such transfer to take place. It is a con. Scam. Very versions have been featured. Always involving your sending some transfer fee first.

Obama’s Pastor Circulates Hamas Manifesto, What do you all think about this?

JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama’s Chicago church reprinted a manifesto by Hamas that defended terrorism as legitimate resistance, refused to recognize the right of Israel to exist and compared the terror group’s official charter – which calls for the murder of Jews – to America’s Declaration of Independence.

The Hamas piece was published on the "Pastor’s Page" of the Trinity United Church of Christ newsletter reserved for Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose anti-American, anti-Israel remarks landed Obama in hot water, prompting the presidential candidate to deliver a major race speech earlier this week.

Hamas, responsible for scores of shootings, suicide bombings and rocket launchings against civilian population centers, is listed as a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department.

The revelation follows a recent WND article quoting Israeli security officials who expressed "concern" about Robert Malley, an adviser to Obama who has advocated negotiations with Hamas and providing international assistance to the terrorist group.

In his July 22, 2007, church newsletter, Wright reprinted an article by Mousa Abu Marzook, identified in the publication as a "deputy of the political bureau of Hamas." A photo image of the piece was captured and posted today by the business blog BizzyBlog, which first brought attention to it. The Hamas article was first published by the Los Angeles Times, garnering the newspaper much criticism.

According to senior Israeli security officials, Marzook, who resides in Syria alongside Hamas chieftain Khaled Meshaal, is considered the "brains" behind Hamas, designing much of the terror group’s policies and ideology. Israel possesses what it says is a large volume of specific evidence that Marzook has been directly involved in calling for or planning scores of Hamas terrorist offensives, including deadly suicide bombings. He was also accused of attempting to set up a Hamas network in the U.S.

Marzook’s original piece was titled, "Hamas’ stand" but was re-titled "A Fresh View of the Palestinian Struggle" by Obama’s church newsletter. The newsletter also referred to Hamas as the "Islamic Resistance Movement," and added in its introduction that Marzook was addressing Hamas’ goals for "all of Palestine."

In the manifesto, Marzook refers to Hamas’ "resistance" – the group’s perpetuation of anti-Israel terrorism targeting civilians – as "legal resistance," which, he argues, is "explicitly supported by the Fourth Geneva Convention."

The Convention, which refers to the rights of people living under occupation, does not support suicide bombings or rocket attacks against civilian population centers, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America noted.

Marzook refers to Hamas’ official charter as "an essentially revolutionary document" and compares the violent creed to the Declaration of Independence, which, Marzook states, "simply did not countenance any such status for the 700,000 African slaves at that time."

Hamas’ charter calls for the murder of Jews. Among its platforms is a statement that the "[resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them, and the rock and the tree will say: ‘Oh Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, kill him!’"

In his piece, Marzook says Hamas only targets Israel and denies that Hamas’ war is meant to be waged against the U.S., even though Hamas officials have threatened America, and Hamas’ charter calls for Muslims to "pursue the cause of the Movement (Hamas), all over the globe."

Trinity Church did not respond to a phone message requesting comment.

Obama’s campaign also did not reply to phone and e-mail requests today for comment.

Obama aide wants talks with terrorists

WND reported in January that Malley, an Obama foreign policy adviser, has penned numerous opinion articles, many of them co-written with a former adviser to the late Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat, petitioning for dialogue with Hamas and blasting Israel for policies he says harm the Palestinian cause.

Malley also previously penned a well-circulated New York Review of Books piece largely blaming Israel for the collapse of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations at Camp David in 2000 when Arafat turned down a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and eastern sections of Jerusalem and instead returned to the Middle East to launch an intifada, or terrorist campaign, against the Jewish state.

Malley’s contentions have been strongly refuted by key participants at Camp David, including President Clinton, then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and primary U.S. envoy to the Middle East Dennis Ross, all of whom squarely blamed Arafat’s refusal to make peace for the talks’ failure.

In February 2006, after Hamas won a majority of seats in the Palestinian parliament and amid a U.S. and Israeli attempt to isolate the Hamas-run Palestinian Authority, Malley wrote an op-ed for the Baltimore Sun advocating international aid to the terror group’s newly formed government.

"The Islamists (Hamas) ran on a campaign of effective government and promised to improve Palestinians’ lives; they cannot do that if the international community turns its back," wrote Malley in a piece entitled, "Making the Best of Hamas’ Victory."

Malley contended the election of Hamas expressed Palestinian "anger at years of humiliation and loss of self-respect because of Israeli settlement expansion, Arafat’s imprisonment, Israel’s incursions, Western lecturing and, most recently and tellingly, the threat of an aid cutoff in the event of an Islamist success."

Malley said the U.S. should not "discourage third-party unofficial contacts with [Hamas] in an attempt to moderate it."

In an op-ed in the Washington Post in January coauthored by Arafat adviser Hussein Agha, Malley – using what could be perceived as anti-Israel language – urged Israel’s negotiating partner, Abbas, to reunite with Hamas.

"A renewed national compact and the return of Hamas to the political fold would upset Israel’s strategy of perpetuating Palestinian geographic and political division," wrote Malley.

He further petitioned Israel to hold talks with Hamas.

"An arrangement between Israel and Hamas could advance both sides’ interests," Malley wrote.

In numerous other op-eds, Malley advocated a policy of engagement with Hamas.

While I see the point that Silly World rmx is making in the above comment. With all do respect, I think he also may have missed a very important point.That being..given the Pro-Palestinian stance that both Wright and his friend NOI Leader Luis Farrakhan have expressed, it’s a pretty good bet Wright’s reason for republishing the Pro-Hamas Terror Manifesto had nothing to do with just wanting to give people a chance to see it. The fact that he renamed it "A Fresh view of the Palestinian struggle" is one good clue.

Public law help please anyone help me :o(?

Heya i was just wondering if someone NE1 lol could help me, ive been asked to do a research log (which i have never done before) on the following questions, if u could please point me in the right deirection i would be most greatful or even some books which could help me just im reeli struggling

Governmental policy to support stem cell research has resulted in the adoption of opposing views by groups within society who are either passionately in favour of the potential medical and scientific benefits or passionately opposed on the grounds of their religious and morally related beliefs.

Pro Embryo is a group committed to preventing further scientific experimentation on embryos. The group is based in London and led by Chris and Nazeem.

BioMedic is a company created by statute – the Emryology Act 2006 ( a fictitious measure). It is predominantly engaged in scientific research into embryos. The company is based in Wulfrun

Two months ago an incendiary device was placed under the car of one of the Directors of Bio Medic. It blew up causing damage to property. The police are currently investigating the incident but have few leads other than a description of three men seen running away from the area shortly before the device blew up.

Question 1.
As a public law company the duties and powers of Bio Medic are defined by statute. Section 2 of the Embryology Act states that all experiments, prior to commencement, conducted by Bio Medic, must receive the approval of a committee of the House of Lords. It comes to light that experimentation has been conducted without that prior approval.

Explain whether the decision could be challenged and on what basis.

Question Two
Two weeks ago Chris and Nazeem organised a demonstration against the policies of the government in relation to embryo research and specifically the activities of Bio Medic. It was proposed to march through the centre of Wulfrun with a view to arriving outside the headquarters of Bio Medic. They gave notice to the Chief Constable for the area. Conditions were imposed, in that the march had to terminate in the local park.and no more than 100 could participate.

Consider whether such conditions were lawful. Could the police have banned the march.

Question Three
During the march the following events occurred.
(i)Phillip was carrying a placard depicting graphic scenes of mutilated embryos. William, an observer, was distressed by the images – his wife had recently lost a child during pregnancy. An argument broke out between the two and the police arrested Phillip.
(ii)Henry and Emma split away from the main group and began to address some passers by about the morality of experimentation. They were immediately arrested by the police on the grounds that a breach of the peace might result.

Were the arrests of Phillip, Henry and Emma lawful.

Question Four

The march begins to break up. James, Imran and John dash through a police cordon and run from the local park towards the headquarters of Bio Medic. It is their intention to deliver a petition in a large envelope to the reception desk containing 10,000 names. P.C Broad and PC Collins are on duty outside Bio Medic and because of the recent bombing and threats received by Bio Medic they are armed. PC Broad receives information over his phone that James, Imran and John are on their way and that they match the description of the three men seen running away from the earlier incident regarding the bombed car. When the three men arrive at Bio Medic PC Broad challenges them to stop. He is ignored and concluding that the package is a bomb shoots and kills James as James enters the building. Following the controversy that erupts the Chief Constable makes it clear two weeks later that there will be no enquiry into the incident.

Explain whether the events could amount to a violation of Article 2 of the ECHR

The Home Secretary proposes to introduce legislation before Parliament which reflects public concern regarding acts of extreme violence. A Bill is drafted which will permit the security forces to detain suspects for up to 42 days before charge and, where the suspicion amounts to a near certainty, for suspects to be kept in solitary confinement and for “aggressive” interrogation techniques to be used . It is the intention of the Home Secretary to derogate from the relevant articles of the ECHR.

Advise the Home Secretary as to whether the government can expect to succeed in getting these provisions onto the statute book.
