What It Means When All Score Values Are the Same
When all score values are the same, there is no variability and the standard deviation is zero. Unlike the range, the standard deviation does not rely on the extreme high and low values; rather it utilizes all the values in its formation which makes it must more accurate than the range. However, the standard deviation confirms a similar finding of that of the range in that the short answer questions appeared to provide students a better opportunity to do well on the exam rather than the multiple choice items.
These scores tell us that the students found it much more difficult to complete the short answer questions versus the multiple choice questions.
