POLL: Do you think the arrest of a 13yr old with child porn on his phone was justifiable or an over reaction?
SANGER – A controversy has arisen out of Denton County involving a 13-year-old boy, a cell phone and a text message. That message has landed the middle schooler in juvenile detention on child pornography charges. Text messaging has become part of our everyday lives. But at Sanger Middle School, it has become a problem and in some cases, pornographic. "He doesn’t know what a felony means. He doesn’t understand what pornography means," said one parent. She is a mother of a 13-year-old boy arrested Monday and suspended from school and spent the night in a juvenile detention center after an eighth grade female student texted him a naked picture of herself. "He’s a 13-year-old child. He’s in middle school. He’s supposed to be out there having fun, hanging out and playing football, which he loves to do. Instead, he’s having to sit at home with mom and dad," said his mother. The school district caught wind of the problem about a week and a half ago. The sent out a letter to parents, warning them of the images from this apparent school yard game. "I know some girl was taking pictures of herself and sending it to multiple guys. Obviously, they’ve still got their picture on their phone because they are now getting in trouble," said Bethany Mitchell, a classmate.
ALSO: on a crime against children site – it has been said that the girl has been arrested as well and charged with distrubiting child porn. If she and/or the boy are convicted they will both have to register as sexual offenders, since they’ll both be tried as adults.

I think everyone in the situation needs some sense knocked into them. Technically it is child porn since she was obviously nude and is legally a child, but I don’t see the point in making them registered sex offenders, that really doesn’t make much sense.

I think it’s justifiable. Sex predators & pedophiles have been documented at ages as young as age 10, for committing crimes of a sexual nature. I know of someone who molested his niece (she was 3 at the time and he was 14 at the time). He was brought up on charges and he has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. It was definitely justified because he has poor impulse control plus a ton of other issues.

I’m not sure what to think to be perfectly honest. One side I see why he shouldn’t be in trouble. However I see the bigger point what he did was wrong. Also I really have no idea what his punishment should be. Psychology has showed that stories like this can lead to this young man being a pedophile or a sex offender. Personally there should be a punishment for him not to be regesterd but if they feel that that’s best then so be it. Lik I said I have no idea really what to say or think
