Would you hire a babysitter with a flyer like this?
I am 13 years old and I live on [my street]
I have earned my Red Cross Babysitting Course certificate and have completed the Home Alone course as well.
Experience in the church nursery and babysitting.
You can reach me at [my phone number]
It is on colourful paper and has a small picture of a cartoon person reading to three children. (link to see this picture is below)
If you were to receive this flyer in the mail, would you possibly phone me?

I am only delivering these flyers to people on my street (most of them know me and all of them are safe)
Perhaps you should change the wording to something like:
Red Cross Certified!
Home Alone Course Certified.
Babysitting and church nursery experience!!
You can reach me at: (Phone number)
Perhaps that would be better because the first line saying your that young will probably out shine all your other qualifications. And then once they are interested set up a meeting beofre you babysit thier kids so they know how old you are.
Good Luck!
BTW: The pic is ok no great but not bad.

yes it seems like you have your priorities in order but the first time would be on a trial basis for a short period of time

yea i mean i would it sounds very professional. If anyone has a problem with it , it just might be ur age 13 is pretty younge unless ur mature. But with little kids idk.

I know this seems so innocent to you sweetie……But there are some goofy crazy people out there that would have every thing that they needed to show up at your door or call you. If you want to babysit….have someone that you have already babysat for use you as a reference….be safe!

If you have any experience I would list that, also (in years). I’m not sure I would hire a 13 yr. old to watch my kids. Are you CPR certified? Parents look for that, also.

I think this sounds very good and the picture is nice, but when it comes to finding a baby sitter people really want someone they know. Get your parents to spread the word and spread the word at your church as well. I think you will find more work if you try to locate customers through either of these ways than through sending a flyer in the mail. You can give the flyer to your parents and leave some at school or at church instead of mailing them…

I would feel safe letting the girl babysit…. but i would sit down with her and ask her questions such as……..when should she put the child to bed or when too feed the child or what kind of activities would she do!

i wouldn’t hire you to watch my son not because of the flyer but because of your age i think your too young
References :
sounds good but I would never hire anyone off the street..I only hire people I know..I am not sure if it is safe for you to go to strangers homes, I would just talk to people your parents know who have kids
References :
Sure, I’d call. I’d also do a personal interview with you and speak to references.

That sounds very professional and excellent criteria. What I’d do is contact you and see when you had time to come and spend some time around the kids you’d be sitting, with me present (to observe). If I watched you around them for an hour or two at my home or at the park, and everything seemed okay then you’d probably be my new babysitter. ☺

Well considering that your a 13 year old, Yes I would call you ………. at least I could get to know you.

Yes!! Too bad you don’t live on my street! I had my babysitter take those courses. Good for you! You need to put what you charge for babysitting, and how many hours your mom lets you sit for. And if you are allowed to use the Microwave but not the stove to fix a snack for the kids.

IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU HAVE PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO THIS AND YOU SOUND LIKE A NICE GIRL, I WOULD DEFINATELY CALL YOU, BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO SETT UP AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET FIRST AND LET YOU GET TO KNOW THE CHILDREN. I HOPE YOU GET LOTS OF CALLS AND GOOD LUCK.
P.S I WOULD ONLY SEND THESE FLIERS TO PEOPLE YOU KNOW OR THAT YOUR PARENTS KNOW.

Well, if I would live near you, I would =)
Seems you have the necessary experience.

I think I would hire you, depending on my child’s age (if s/he wasn’t too young) since you are kind of young. But since you earned the certificate and completed that course, you haev a very good chance of getting hired!! Good luck

Do you have references – a few people you’ve babysat for who can tell other people you did a good job? Add that you can provide them to the flier. (Don’t put the references’ contact info on the flier though!)
References :
well, I wouldn’t hire anyone solely based on a flyer, but there’s nothing on there that would make me NOT call you for an interview. Good info provided, spelled correctly, etc.

If I knew you fairly well, then yes! It sounds like you really did your ‘homework’ on this. I’m sure once you have a few clients, you’ll become well recommended. Only pass these out to the people whom you have been at least aquainted with. ( There are some weirdos out there who may try to take advantage of you.) good luck.

I babysat since I was eleven. So, been there.
you might say which church.
but you cannot ask the church to approve or recommend you.
that would be a liability for them.
it would be good if parents could see how you interact with children.
were you thinking of working in your house, or the house of the kids? you might indicate that.
you might also indicate what else you could do. (snack, ??? cheese+crackers or fruit, might make a difference to some folks.)
50 years ago, it would probably be fine.
today, it depends a lot more on the city or town where you are, and the neighborhood.
good luck.

Call the babysitter up and ask her to come over and have a little interview with her. You can always call up her church to see if she has had the experience and how she was with the children. You can also ask her to show you the red cross certificate and the certificate for completing the Home alone course as well.

sorry honey… you sound lovely but far too young for a responsible adult to allow you to care for their child.i assume the nursery is well supervised . as a mother of a thirteen year old i’d be very concerned if she was handing out flyers advertising. you cant know if the people phoning you are genuine. you are still very niave and could easily be taken advantage of. stick to helping out at the church and your family. im surprised at the amout of people here who think its ok.the bottom line is you are still a child no matter how mature you may feel, you are your parents responsibility and i . as a parent, hope that they would be very cautious about allowing you to do this. its good you want to earn your own money but i think you need to wait a bit longer. take care xx

yes, i would, if you are CPR trained put that, also that you enjoy babysitting, and will give lots of TLC, and will supply references at their request, sounds like you have done all the right things anyone would be blessed to have you as there sitter, oh also write that your fee is reasonable

I’m definitely impressed with your course work, so yes, I’d be inclined to hire you. I suggest that you add a large bold heading at the top of the page like "Babysitting Services" or "Need A Babysitter?" You could even come up with a clever "business name" for yourself. Then re-write your sentences into a paragraph. The way it is now it sounds kind of choppy. A paragraph will add friendliness, personality and flow. You could also add your email address if you want.
If you decide to distribute this outside your neighborhood, ditch the street address and phone number. Replace them with an email address that you would use just for babysitting for your protection. After getting to know a family, give them your number.
References :
It depends really. I am overly cautious about my kids and 13 seems really young to be babysitting. You seem really smart and mature, so I might for a short time frame; like going out to eat or something like that. If the people on your street know you and are comfortable with having you watch their kids than go for it.

yeah id hire you

I think your flyer looks great, but I wouldn’t hire you unless a) I knew you personally, or b) you came highly recommended by a close friend with kids. Or maybe if I know your mom. Personal, word of mouth referrals are the best way to get good babysitters and for babysitters to get good jobs.
